Magazines and Music Video assessment learner response

Magazines and Music Video assessment learner response

1) Type up your WWW/EBI feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

total 9 grade 3

www this is up slightly on your last assessment up 5% but we still have some work to do ensure you are picking up the marks to get you to your target grade.

ebi make sure you are doing the blog work in enough detail to really learn the csps.

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Write down the mark you achieved for each question:

Q1: 1

Q2: 2

Q3:2

Q4:3

Q5: 1

3) Look specifically at question 2. Use the indicative content in the mark scheme for question 2 to write three connotations of the design and layout of Tatler.

the choice of white and black font/typography against the natural setting connotes that the
magazine is both fresh and modern but from a classy, traditional base. This is likely how the
Tatler audience would like to see themselves
• the soft focus also draws the eye to the image, in particular the model’s gaze, which
connotes equality between the model and the reader, given the model’s body language

the denotation of one central image directly addressing the audience enables the audience
to see the aspirational Tatler reader – an upmarket, sophisticated woman

4) Now look at question 3 - Heat magazine.
Use the indicative content in the mark scheme to write three ways celebrities are represented in Heat magazine.

• Focuses on celebrities’ relationships – ‘double life’, ‘secretive star’, ‘baby daddy’, ‘Giovanna’s
heartache’ etc. Suggests these are important developments audiences want to hear the
latest on.
• Harry and Meghan feature prominently – the ultimate celebrity couple for Heat combining
British Royalty with American actress.
• Female celebrities feature more prominently than male – perhaps reinforces gender
stereotypes regarding women expecting to take part in gossip about relationships.

5) Look at question 5 - Arctic Monkeys and audience identity. This is a real AQA past question with lots of potential answers given in the mark scheme. Choose three answers that specifically refer to the Arctic Monkeys CSP and write them here.

• Excellent and accurate knowledge and understanding of the theoretical
framework, demonstrated by consistent and effective explanation of
audience identity.

• Consistently appropriate and effective reference to the CSP.

• Consistently appropriate and effective use of subject-specific
terminology throughout.

6) BLACKPINK - How You Like That didn't come up in this assessment. If this CSP comes up in your end of Year 1 exam, what three things about BLACKPINK and How You Like That will you try to include in your answer?

BLACKPINK was founded by YG Entertainment, one of the biggest musical firms in South Korea. The four members of the quartet are Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé. They made their debut in 2016 and quickly gained international recognition for their energetic tunes and fascinating performances.

BLACKPINK and K-pop in general are prime instances of how global the music and media industries are. First of all, BLACKPINK is a very popular and successful group outside of their home country of South Korea, particularly in Western markets such as the US and Europe. This illustrates how the influence and reach of the media and music industries are no longer limited by geographic limits.

it gained the highest number of views during a premiere, the most views for a music video within 24 hours—with 86.3 million views—and became the fastest video to reach 100 million and 200 million views on the platform. It also became one of the most-liked videos on YouTube with over 24 million likes.
