Reception theory
Reception theory
1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?
The message that the creators want to convey. This is based on the premise that by employing established rules and conventions (such as stereotypes), producers may position the audience and influence their reading such that they accept the desired message.
2) What is the opposition reading of a media text?
Op-positional reading occurs when the audience rejects the intended message, constructing an opposite reading due to their own social, political, or moral beliefs and values, contradicting the intended message.
3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?
The trailer for the movie "Harry Brown" presents the teenage audience in a negative light, portraying them as criminals who engage in violence and aggression through depictions of gang violence and violent imagery.
4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?
Some individuals may not agree with the trailer's statement and may consider it to be stereotypical, as not all adolescents engage in gang violence, crime-related activities, or even violence.
5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.
The big mac burger in the McDonald advertisement looks like it's been grilling on the BBQ grill. The cheddar cheese is melted off the edges and a bun separates two irresistible juicy burger patties, and the fresh, crispy lettuce is cut into individual strips. However, from my previous experience, I can't agree with the burger's appearance in the advertisement. It might look Delicious in the advertisement, but that's only because it's trying to attract customers and get more customers. The only thing that might be 50% right is the detail underneath the burger that lists the ingredients. As I've done some research, I've noticed that a lot of other customers share similar experience of the burger being soggy and generally not in the best condition. This may mean that McDonald's is just trying to get more customers and gain more wealth. This shows that they're not interested in customer service and they're doing false advertisement.
